[Fall 1997] Summer "Vacation" Part 5.5

Commentary

Yet another mid-week, web-only strip.

Tech companies in the Silicon Valley have famously lax dress codes, at least for their programmers who they assume are hanging by a thread when it comes to social graces.

Bastich is probably wearing a T-shirt he got at some tech convention, where every booth was some start-up handing out swag. I had a lot of shirts with cool logos promoting some product or other without actually saying anything about what it did. Decades later, the shirts are the only remaining evidence of most of them.

TITLE The Bastich By Hart: Summer "Vacation" Part 5.5

PANEL 1 (The BOSS points at BASTICH while MTN. DEWD looks on.) BOSS: Bastich! What are you doing wearing that T-shirt to work? I demand that you go home immediately and put on something more appropriate!

PANEL 1 (The BOSS storms off as BASTICH raises his a fist in defiance.) BASTICH: I don't get it..! Admin Bob wears a T-Shirt to work every day, and his shirts usually have holes in them! Why don't they send HIM home to change?

PANEL 1 (MTN. DEWD points at that back of BASTICH's T-shirt which reads: "Mothership SUCKS! Buy ARMADA!") MTN. DEWD: Probably because his shirts have pictures of demonic beasts and heavy-metal bands rather than advertisements for competing products, fool! BASTICH: oh.
